I’ll be up-front. I’m asking you for money. But don’t run away! Any little bit will help, and it’s for a really great cause. I’m on the fundraising committee for HALCO – the HIV and AIDS Legal-aid Clinic of Ontario. HALCO’s 4th Annual Fundraising Bowl-a-thon is on November 3, 2012, at 8pm at Bathurst Bowlarama. And I’m going to bowl. In costume.
I need your help for two reasons:
1) HALCO is a really important organization. They provide front-line legal services for people living with HIV & AIDS in Ontario. There’s still a lot of stigma associated with HIV & AIDS and people living with the virus can face discrimination in ways that others don’t. It’s also a disease that disproportionately affects marginalized people. The fastest growing population infected with HIV? Women.
2) They won’t let me bowl if I don’t raise money! I only need to get $125 to be part of the team, but I think we can do much better than that. After all, all the money raised goes directly to providing client services and your donation could make a huge difference.
Here’s how you can part with your money:
Go to http://www.halco.org/get-involved/donate and click the “Donate Now through Canada Helps” button. Please write “Lizz Bryce Bowlathon” in the message box. You can donate any amount you like. $5 from 25 of you will get me to my goal. $10 from just 12.5 of you will do the trick. But if you go up to $20 you get one of those handy tax receipts! (If you donate $50 I will give you a hug*. $100 and I’ll take you out or a drink*)
Some details about HALCO:
The HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario (HALCO) is a charitable, not-for-profit community-based legal clinic that provides free legal services to people living with HIV & AIDS in Ontario. It is the only service of its kind in Canada and since 2006, the demand for our legal services has increased 90%.
